POINTS OF INTEREST ABOUT WYTHALL WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

WHAT IS THE WOMEN’S INSTITUTE?

The Women’s Institute (W.I) was started in Stoney Creek, Canada in 1897.
Our institute started in 1934. It is an organisation open to women and girls and is non - sectarian and non - political.

Its main purpose is to be involved in community issues and provide a forum for social and educational activities for members
at monthly meetings. Above all, W.I. is for Fellowship and Friendship. With W.I. it is possible to take part in sport, outings, crafts and other activities.

Wythall W.I., with nine other local village W.I.s, is part of the “Weatheroak Group”, which along with other groups belongs to the Worcestershire Federation of W.I.s (W.F.W.I.).
This in turn belongs to the National Federation of W.I.s (N.F.W.I.).

The National Federation is affiliated to the Associated Country Women of the World (A.C.W.W.).which represents the views and interests of women worldwide.

At annual N.F.W.I. meetings, resolutions on issues of national interest and concern are debated and voted upon. As a result
of this, the N.F.W.I. can help to influence national decision-making bodies.
Therefore, every W.I. has a vote and members can be aware of and be involved in national current affairs.

MEETINGS
Our monthly meetings are a blend of:-
Business matters, with brief reports on current activities which include county, group and community news.
Talks by speakers - for details see Welcome Page of this Web Site.
Social time with refreshments and opportunity to talk with friends.

Twice a year there are group and county meetings which give members the opportunity to meet with other Institutes and extend ‘Friendship’.

DENMAN COLLEGE
Denman College is a lovely manor house with beautiful gardens situated at Marcham, Abingdon, Oxfordshire.

The college is for all W.I. members who wish to attend courses to learn crafts and skills, taught by professional tutors in friendly and comfortable surroundings.

The length of the courses vary from a few days up to a week and the charges include tuition, accommodation and all meals.

Every other year Wythall W.I. awards a bursary to one member towards the cost of a weekend course and travelling
expenses.
Most people visit Denman alone but new friendships are quickly established during tuition and meal times.

FOR FURTHER FRIENDSHIP
There are many opportunities to meet other members to develop skills and friendship during the week:-
KEEP FIT – Tuesday Evening (weekly),
DISCUSSION GROUPS – Various Evenings (monthly)
WALKING GROUP - Fourth Wednesday in the month.
HANDICRAFTS – Organised dates

CARING FOR THE MEMBERSHIP
Members are encouraged to inform the committee of any member’s illness so that the Welfare Visitor can call. She is always a very welcome visitor with her bouquet of flowers and best wishes from the rest of the Wythall W.I. members

WYTHALL W.I. IS A CARING AND FRIENDLY ORGANISATION WHICH WILL ALWAYS WELCOME VISITORS AND NEW MEMBERS.
